The name "Tikal" means "Place of Voices" or "Place of Tongues" in Maya. The ancient city of Tikal is located in the department of Petén. Tikal was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century, Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Piriod ca. 200 to 900 AD. During this time, the city dominated much of the Maya region politically, economically, and militarily. It is our pleasure to take you to one of the most beautiful archaeological sites of Guatemala. This is one of the largest, most magnificent archaeological sites in the world. To visit Tikal, you need to take a plane from Guatemala City to Flores. It is approximately a one and a half hour flight. Upon arriving in Flores we will have an additional one and a half hour drive to the park. After a rest, we will climb the largest and tallest temple of Tikal, which is temple lV. To finish the tour, we will visit Mundo Perdido (Lost World). It's a nice tour that can be done in one day, but if you have the time I would recommend that you take two days to explore this amazing site. You will not be disappointed.
